It sits on the south side of Lewisville Lake, where I-35E meets SH-121 and the Sam Rayburn Tollway, with a small part in Dallas County. Settlers first called the area Holford’s Prairie, and it took the name Lewisville after Basdeal Lewis bought the land in 1853. The city incorporated in 1925, and growth took off after the dam that created Lewisville Lake was finished in 1954.
